First Grade: Line Projects

First Grade at Indian Lane Elementary School is learning about Lines (an Element of Design). They are learning that a Line begins with a Dot. In this project the students are learning the difference between Vertical and Horizontal Lines.

The first part of this project the students draw a Horizontal line, and give the line LIFE. Because as Artists, the students have the ability to give the lines life and ENERGY!!!


After the students draw the lines, they then add 5 different colors that run parallel with their horizontal line. This is called a PATTERN. The students learn that a PATTERN is any repeating LINE, SHAPE or COLOR.

Once the students complete all 5 lines, they will then add GEOMETRIC shapes in the BACKGROUND of their drawings. The students learn that geometric shapes are SQUARES, CIRCLES, TRIANGLES, RECTANGLES, etc.
